How Team Selection Works

How to apply

Applying for the St. Paul Cash Spiel requires two registrations, both completed by August 2, 2026:

• Register your team on CurlingZone so the Organizing Committee can confirm your WCF World Team Ranking points for selection.
• Submit your application on cashspiel.com so the committee has your roster, contact details, and confirmation that you've agreed to the terms.

Only applications received by August 2, 2026 will be considered during the initial selection process.

Selection process

Team selection will be determined using WCF World Team Ranking points as of August 2, 2026 — the day applications close. (If your points haven't been published by then, see If your ranking points aren't published yet below.) The field is filled in two pools:

Ranking points are published on CurlingZone on its own schedule, and a team that forms or applies close to the deadline can have results that haven't been calculated into a World Team Ranking total yet. That's a timing gap, not a reflection of how the team has played — so it shouldn't decide whether you're considered.

Where a published total isn't available by August 2, 2026, the Organizing Committee may record a provisional point figure for the team. The formula used for calculating WCF World Team Ranking points will be used by the Organizing Committee in calculating the provisional point figure. This will incorporate points earned by the team and/or individuals in the previous season plus any points earned in recent point-earning tournaments. Provisional figures are:

• Only used when there is no published total. A team's official WCF World Team Ranking points always take precedence — a provisional figure is never used to move a team above where its published ranking places it.
• Shown publicly. Any provisional figure appears on the Field page marked “provisional,” so every applicant can see how the pools were ordered and why.
• Replaced automatically. Once the published total appears, it takes over and the provisional figure stops being used.
• Not used for seeding. Event seeding is set later from published World Team Ranking data.

If you think this applies to your team, say so when you apply or email info@cashspiel.com before the deadline — the committee can only account for results it knows about.

Where the rankings come from

Selection uses the WCF World Team Ranking published by World Curling — the same ranking the Organizing Committee reads on the application deadline. Rankings update weekly through the season; you can look up your team's current position and points any time:

• Women's World Team Ranking

The ranking is hosted on CurlingZone — the same platform where you register your team (see How to apply above), so the committee can match your application to your ranked entry.

Timeline

Registration fee

The fee is $1,000 USD per team. Payment is collected after you've been selected and confirmed — not when you submit your application. Payment instructions are sent with your invitation.

Payment

Payment is due by September 2, 2026. Teams that haven't paid by this date may have their spot reassigned to the next available team. If you need to discuss timing, reach out to the bonspiel chair before the deadline — we'd rather work with you than release your spot.

Organizing Committee discretion

If any positions remain unfilled after the selection process above (e.g., insufficient qualified applicants or withdrawals), the Organizing Committee reserves the right to fill remaining spots at its discretion.

Additional notes

• The Organizing Committee reserves the right to verify all team information and eligibility.
• Any ties in WCF World Team Ranking points may be resolved at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.
• Selected teams will be notified following the close of the application period.
